Students and faculty members in the Department of Chemical Engineering participate in the Ministry of Youth and Sports exhibition for talented people

A scientific team of professors from the Department of Chemical Engineering participated in the Fifth International Conference on Building, Construction and Environmental Engineering, which was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology in cooperation with Komar University in Sulaymaniyah Governorate and the University of Jordan, in the presence of the representative of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, Assistant to the President for Affairs Administrative Prof. Dr. Farhad Muhammad Othman and the presence of an elite group of professors from the University of Technology and other universities.
Where Prof. Dr. Thamer Jassim Mohammed, Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdel-Jabbar Abdel-Razzaq (scientific assistant), Prof. Mai Ali Muslim (branch head of the Chemical Engineering and Oil Pollution Branch), and Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Rahman Abdel-Ghani participated. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized a scientific symposium entitled Investing municipal waste in energy production and environmental preservation on Tuesday, 12/12/2023.
The symposium included scientific lectures by Engineer Montaser Hiran Muhammad from the Baghdad Municipality and Professor Louay Sadiq Al-Mukhtar from the Ministry of Environment, during which a detailed presentation was given on the management and control of waste and ways to convert it into useful energy to preserve the environment. It also touched on the classification of waste in terms of origin, physical state, and chemical nature of the waste, and the projects of the Baghdad Municipality in investing waste in the Rusafa and Al-Karkh area and converting it into energy to preserve the environment. As part of the cultural and scientific activity for the first semester, the Graduate Follow-up Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering held a workshop entitled Career Qualification for final year students and graduates on Sunday, 12/3/2023.
The workshop included a lecture by Mrs. Nour Sabah Sadiq Al-Marayati, Director of the Customer Service Department at Changan Company, during which she presented a set of technical and administrative skills that an engineer must possess in order to achieve success and distinction in the labor market. On the other hand, the lecture explained the importance of graduates obtaining the scientific skills that develop their academic capabilities and enable them to obtain the appropriate job and acquire the elements of success and career stability. At the conclusion of the workshop, the department appreciated the lecturer’s efforts with a certificate of thanks and appreciation in appreciation of her valuable efforts in the scientific workshop.

As part of the cultural and scientific activity for the first semester, the Graduate Follow-up Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering held a workshop on chemical additives in the concrete industry for final year students and graduates of the department on Wednesday, 11/29/2023. The workshop included a detailed presentation by the engineer Hammam Yaqzan Abdel Moneim about the types of concrete and chemical additives that are used to increase the quality of concrete to suit different uses. The lecturer explained that the mechanical properties of tensile and compressive strength depend greatly on the type of chemical additives used in the composition of concrete, and as a result affect its operational life and its capabilities to different conditions of humidity, salts, and harsh climatic factors.

A training workshop was held for first-year students on Sunday, November 26, 2023, on the application of the Bologna Pathway by the academic committee supervising the application of this path and with the participation of the new student registration committee to clarify the new academic system (Bologna System) and introduce them to the features of this system. What is the student role in this system, how to use it, and how to register in it? The committee also discussed how scientific lessons are presented, the method of selecting them, and a detailed explanation of this system so that our dear students can benefit from and adapt to the new university system.

The lecture was given by Mrs. Zainab Asaad Daoud, in which she provided a detailed presentation on the nature of leadership, the basics of successful leadership, the basic theories and practices of leadership, and the necessity of developing leadership skills among young people by expanding their awareness and knowledge and developing their leadership skills and directions in leading themselves and leading others. At the end of the lecture, the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajmi Sukkar, awarded a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in recognition of her efforts in delivering the lecture.

On the other hand, the importance of promoting a culture of national unity, love and peace in order to build a strong and cohesive society was emphasized. The session was chaired by Assist. As part of the University of Technology preparations to welcome new students, the Chemical Engineering Department welcomes first-year students in all scientific branches in the presence of Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajmi Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department. During the reception, the head of the department stressed the importance of strengthening the theoretical and practical aspects of students in accordance with the vision of the University of Technology, which attaches great importance to the applied aspect. It was also stressed the need for all faculty members and administrative staff to cooperate in order to implement the Bologna process with all flexibility and smoothness in order to improve the educational process. On the other hand, the aides to the head of the department, as well as the heads of the scientific branches, reviewed the specifics of each scientific branch within the department in terms of the scientific aspect and its role in the industry or field of work. On a related level, Lect. Dr. Qusay Jaafar Rashid gave an introductory lecture about the Department of Chemical Engineering, highlighting the role of the chemical engineer in building the various chemical and petroleum industries in order to build a scientific economy based on the knowledge economy.
