Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai inspected the exam halls for the undergraduate study for the third and fourth stages, in order to review the progress of the examinations for the first half of the academic year 2017/2018, and follow-up examination halls to determine the progress of examinations and create the appropriate atmosphere within the halls. The head of the department was also assured students to abide by the exam instructions and abide by the uniform.
A lecture entitled "Time Use Skills and Self Management

Scientific visit
Written by lumaIn accordance with the directives of the head of Chemical Engineering Department in the activation of scientific visits to the Department students during the current academic year 2017/2018 and under the Administrative Order No. 2436 dated 5/12/2017 and the approval of the Midland Refineries Company / Daura refinery. The summer training committee organized a scientific visit to the postgraduate students (oil and gas refining engineering and chemical processes engineering) and students of the department of production engineering and metallurgy / PhD / (metallurgy engineering) on Wednesday 20/12/2017 inside the headquarters of Midland Refineries company/ Daura refinery. Under the supervision of the faculty members who are: Sami Ibrahim and Dr. Khaled Hamed and Dr. Antsar Yahya and Lect. Bashir Ahmad and Mr. Assaad Hassan the representative of the University Media Unit.
One of the most important objectives of the scientific visit was to link theoretical study with practical application and to clarify some practical applications of chemical engineering in the field of petroleum industries.
On the sidelines of the visit, the deputy of General Director, Dr. Ayed Jaber Omran Al-Khafaji, and the Director of Training and Manpower Development at the Company, Mr. Saad Ahmed Abdul Khaleq, and the Engineering Staff have welcomed the attendees of the lecturers and postgraduate students who are present in the lecture hall. During the meeting, a documentary film was presented explaining the history of the refinery's construction since the 1950s. The delegation, together with a staff of the company, went to the system of control of the czechoslovakia unit as well as the definition of the outputs of the scientific Department, where a group of engineers specialized in the refinery and the academic staffs from our department have explained the problems of corrosion and answer all questions of visiting students. Also in one of the modern oil refining units and the water treatment unit in the refinery, all measuring devices and control equipment were introduced and how they worked through a field tour. At the end of the visit, all the academic staff and students expressed their pleasure and joy in the positive results of the scientific activity carried out by the summer training committee. They also thanked the head of the department for giving them an opportunity to learn about the problems of corrosion in the systems and methods of their treatments directly.
Meeting of the General Authority of the Chemical Engineering Department
Written by lumaGod's blessing; the first meeting of the General authority for the first semester of 2017/2018 was held at Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Tuesday 31/10/2017. The head of the department Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai welcomed the faculty members of the department. During the meeting, the following matters were discussed:
- Necessity of commitment to official working hours.
- Discussion of the distribution the marks of lessons according to the timing of the university calendar.
- Completion of each scientific branch in the department a seminar or a conference.
- Encouragement of student activities.
- Selection of a representative for the faculty members.
Scientific visit to the Department of Chemical Engineering to Al-Mustaqbal University College

On the basis of the memorandum of understanding between the University of Technology / Department of Chemical Engineering and Al-Mustaqbal University College, a scientific visit was made to Al-Mustaqbal University College in Babylon on Saturday, 2/12/2017 headed by the head of the Chemical Engineering Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai and accompanied by the administrative deputy Lect. Dr. Walaa Abdul-Hadi, Prof. Dr. Qusay Fadel, and the head of Chemical Engineering and Oil Refining Branch Assist. Prof. Dr. Talib Mohammed Nayef. The objectives of the visit were to activate the memoranda of understanding that were previously signed between the two parties, including joint research between the two parties in addition to the implementation of the Engineering Education Conference in cooperation with the Iraqi Engineers union and the Committee of Deans of Engineering Colleges in Iraq. |

Within the scientific and cultural activities of the first semester for the Department of Chemical Engineering for the academic year 2017-2018, the third stage student / chemical processes engineering Branch (Raghad Ahmed Ismail) a lecture entitled: Design and manufacture of a system for the production of magnetized water for the purpose of preparing and diagnosing magnetic nano-composite materials as a catalyst for the removal of heavy metals from water circles inside Al-Khwarizmi hall in the presence of the head of Chemical Engineering Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai. The seminar was also attended by the deputies of the head of the department, the heads of the scientific branches and a number of professors, employees and students from the department on Thursday, 23-11-2017. The student explained that the water that is passed through a specific magnetic field or placing the magnet inside and/or near it for a period of time causes exposure to the impact of those magnetic fields to change many properties of water. The process of magnetization of water works to strengthen the properties of water by organizing the charges correctly (i.e. positive or negative). The system is designed to dispose of acidic water, water soluble salts and electrical conductivity. The system is a water collection tank and copper wire insulated type (S.WG19) with 10 mm diameter. The system also consists of a voltage, current and resistance measuring devices, organic vapor analyzers (OVA mete), pH measurement, TDS & Electrical conductivity for water, 1.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 12 voltages Batteries, a water pump for the purpose of water recycling, rubber tubes and a 15 cm long metal plate. The salinity water that contained (0.43) of salts was passed and when it passed around the magnetic field for 30 minutes the amount of salts decreased to (0.24). |

The head of the Department of Chemical Engineering Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai was inspected the internal departments of the students and accompanied by the administrative deputy and the registration director in the department on Sunday, 3/12/2017. Where he visited all the flats containing the students of the Department of Chemical Engineering and he saw the conditions of their housing and was stressed on the students to maintain the cleanliness of the apartments and rooms allocated to them and the equipment of the internal department. The head of the department instructed all students to use the time to perform their study duties as well as to listen to their demands and opinions about their housing situation. He was also praised the efforts of the Presidency of the University of Technology, represented by the internal departments, to follow up the situation in the internal departments. |

Assist. Prof. Dr. Adel Sherif Hammadi, a member of the faculty of the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology and in cooperation with researchers in the Ministry of Industry and Minerals / Center for Chemical and Petrochemical Research, registered a patent related to the use of chemical processing and activation to prepare and study the characteristics of Iraqi nano-Bentonite. Which was registered in the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, the nano-Bentonite invention was prepared with high quality and efficiency in use through employing the raw bentonites available in our country in large quantities which are widely used in the industrial, medical, agricultural and other fields. |
Department of Chemical Engineering holds a special training workshop for postgraduate students entitled (writing the thesis / dissertation and presentation methods in English language)
Written by lumaThe Department of Chemical Engineering held a special training workshop for postgraduate students entitled "Writing the thesis/dissertation and presentation methods in English language" at the Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Monday, 27/11/2017. The head of the Chemical Engineering Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai was attended the workshop with a number of professors and postgraduate students from our department and other university departments. Where the first lecture was delivered by Lect. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hadi. The lecture included introducing the audience to the importance of the presentation, the method of preparing the slides, the contents of each slide, the method of presentation of the lecture, the most important positions of the researcher during the process of diction and the ways of communicating and delivery of information. The second lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Qusay Fadhel, where he addressed the students' definition of how to write the thesis/dissertation and the sequence of writing and away from the textual quotation to override the high rates of plagiarism and the mistakes made by student during writing his/her thesis/dissertation.

Symposium on "Nanotechnology Applications in Environmental Protection
Written by lumaUnder the auspices of the President of the University of Technology Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir, the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology held a symposium entitled "Nanotechnology Applications in the field of Environmental Protection" on 12/12/2017 at Dar Al-Salaam Hall inside our Department, which attended by the university president deputy for administrative affairs Prof. Dr. Sami Abu Al-Nun Ajeel on behalf of the President of the University and the Head of Chemical Engineering Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai with a group of professors and employees from the Department and the University. The Head of the Chemical Engineering Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubeai was delivered a speech on this occasion, in which he expressed the importance of environmental treatment and disposal using modern technologies to preserve the environment. The symposium also included the opening of scientific lectures and awarding of certificates to the lecturers and members of the supervisory and preparatory committees.

A scientific Team visits the State Company for Mining Industry / Ministry of Industry and Minerals
Written by lumaA scientific team from the Department of Chemical Engineering was visited the State Company for Mining Industry / Ministry of Industry and Minerals on Sunday 21/1/2018 headed by Prof. Dr. Thamir Jassim Mohammed. The members of the scientific team were Prof. Dr. Mona Khudair Abbas, Asst. Prof. Dr. Lama Adnan Hamid, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Fadel Abdel, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Hager Zine El Abidine. Both Asst. Prof. Dr Fadel Abbas Hashem and Asst. Prof. Dr. Salah Salman Ibrahim were apologized for attending the meeting because of exam Obligations. The meeting was held with representatives of the company under the chairmanship of the assistant director of the company Eng. Younis Sheal Fahad, in the presence of representatives of the industrial research and development department. During the meeting, the greetings of the president of the University of Technology prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir were conveyed and valued the importance of enhancing the fruitful cooperation between the university and companies of the Ministry of Industry to solve the technical problems facing our national industry During the meeting, the problems and technical constraints of some of the company's projects were presented to the possibility of finding solutions by the professors of the university of technology according to their specialization, and also the five-year research plan of the company and the possibility for the contribution of the departments in the university of technology in the adoption of a part from these research as research projects for MSc and PhD students. It was agreed to submit a report on the problems and the research plan and documented them in an official letter to the University of Technology in order to find solutions for them by the team and university professors in engineering departments, with the expansion of the paragraphs of the memorandum of understanding to be signed between the State Company for Mining Industry and the Department of Production Engineering and Metallurgy to include other departments within the university of technology such as chemical engineering and materials engineering departments or others.
