Scientific visit

     In accordance with the directives of the head of Chemical Engineering Department in the activation of scientific visits to the Department students during the current academic year 2017/2018 and under the Administrative Order No. 2436 dated 5/12/2017 and the approval of the Midland Refineries Company / Daura refinery. The summer training committee organized a scientific visit to the postgraduate students (oil and gas refining engineering and chemical processes engineering) and students of the department of production engineering and metallurgy / PhD / (metallurgy engineering) on Wednesday 20/12/2017 inside the headquarters of Midland Refineries company/ Daura refinery. Under the supervision of the faculty members who are: Sami Ibrahim and Dr. Khaled Hamed and Dr. Antsar Yahya and Lect. Bashir Ahmad and Mr. Assaad Hassan the representative of the University Media Unit.

One of the most important objectives of the scientific visit was to link theoretical study with practical application and to clarify some practical applications of chemical engineering in the field of petroleum industries.

On the sidelines of the visit, the deputy of General Director, Dr. Ayed Jaber Omran Al-Khafaji, and the Director of Training and Manpower Development at the Company, Mr. Saad Ahmed Abdul Khaleq, and the Engineering Staff have welcomed the attendees of the lecturers and postgraduate students who are present in the lecture hall. During the meeting, a documentary film was presented explaining the history of the refinery's construction since the 1950s. The delegation, together with a staff of the company, went to the system of control of the czechoslovakia unit as well as the definition of the outputs of the scientific Department, where a group of engineers specialized in the refinery and the academic staffs from our department have explained the problems of corrosion and answer all questions of visiting students. Also in one of the modern oil refining units and the water treatment unit in the refinery, all measuring devices and control equipment were introduced and how they worked through a field tour. At the end of the visit, all the academic staff and students expressed their pleasure and joy in the positive results of the scientific activity carried out by the summer training committee. They also thanked the head of the department for giving them an opportunity to learn about the problems of corrosion in the systems and methods of their treatments directly.
