Two faculty members, Assist. Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdul - Jabbar and Lect. Dr. Walaa Abdelhadi, from the Chemical Engineering Department published a research entitled "Modification of Zeolite by Magnetic Nanoparticles for Organic Dye Removal" In the Arab Journal of Science and Engineering with impact factor of 1.092.

Under the auspices of the President of the University of Technology Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir, the University of Technology in cooperation with the Directorate of Civil Defense and the University Committee for the Control of Chemical and Biological Hazardous Substances (CBRN: Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) held a celebration and field demonstration entitled "Safety Week at the University of Technology" on the gardens of the Department of Chemical Engineering on Monday, 11/3/2019 in the presence of the President of the University of Technology Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir and Governor of Baghdad Eng. Falah Al-Jazairi as well as the director of civil defense Colonel Kazem Salman, in addition to the University President Deputy for Administrative Affairs Prof. Dr. Sami Abu Al-Nun Ajeel, University President Deputy for Scientific and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein and the head of the Chemical Engineering Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar with a number of department heads, faculty members, department and university staff and a selection of civil defense officers. The President of the University explained in his speech the need to use the most important methods and modern techniques to control chemical and biological materials and to preserve the safety of faculty members and students when dealing with these hazardous materials. The ceremony included a field review by a group of faculty members and students in cooperation with the Directorate of Civil Defense. At the end of the celebration, the certificates were awarded by the Governor of Baghdad and the President of the University of Technology to the members of the Preparatory Committee and everyone who participated in the celebration.

Dr. Alaa Mishgal Ali, Lect. Fadel Hashem Faraj and Assist. Lect. Khaled Mansour Sadek were participated in the workshop under the title (description, identification and basic analysis of nanomaterials) at the University of Kashan / Islamic Republic of Iran for the period 8-12 / 2/2019. Participants were trained on nanometer instruments (XRD, SEM & BET). The participants received certificates as well as a letter of thanks from the host University for their active participation.

Professors from College of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering at the Islamic Republic of Iran, Prof. Hatyi and Prof. Azmi, are visiting the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology. During the visit, the meeting was attended with the Head of the Department Assist Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, scientific and administrative deputies of the head of the department and the heads of scientific branches in the department. The meeting dealt with reviewing the study plans for the graduate and postgraduate studies, the research tracks in both departments and the prospects of cooperation between the two parties. Afterwards, a lecture was given by them about the applications of nano-technology on the teaching staff in the department. The meeting was also held with the head of cultural relations department.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Khalid Hamid Rashid from the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology was honored with the International Scientific Award and the Golden Medal with the international certificate in the first international event in Iraq for the year 2019 by means of Everest Organization for Development Training and the French Association of thinkers, researchers and inventors in France at the headquarters of the European Union of scientists and inventors for his participation in a scientific study in chemical engineering in finding solutions to deal with corrosion problems and protection of iron alloys used in the field of oil industry. This scientific research specialized in the containers Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) under the title: Evaluation of new green inhibitors against corrosion for steel alloys in the acidic environments. He was honored by the President of the University of Technology in a ceremony held in the hall of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology on 12/3/2019.

Written by lumaThe student chapter (AIChE) for the department of chemical engineering held the periodic meeting in Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Monday, 18/3/2019 for the purpose of deliberating on matters related to the activities of the chapter and the ideas of the students and the proposals necessary for the development the chapter work. Where part of the meeting was attended by the head of the Department of Chemical Engineering; Assist. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, administrative deputy; Lect. Dr. Wallaa Al-Najjar, Department's Coordinator and graduate students. The head of the department expressed his directives to support the students' class, develop their effectiveness and listen to their views and requests. The meeting was moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Mana Ali, supervisor of the chapter, along with Lect. Dr. Abbas Jawad Sultan and Lect. Dr. Haidar Abdul Ali from the Chemical Engineering Department with the participation of members from AIChE. It is worth mentioning that the student chapter in the Department of Chemical Engineering is the first in Baghdad, which is established in cooperation with the American Chemical Engineering Institute.

They are each of Prof. Dr. Qusay Fadel Abdel Hamid, Assist. Prof. Dr. Salah Salman and Assist. Prof. Dr. Khaled Turki Rashed. The symposium dealt with the role of modern science and technology in raising awareness about the water challenges for sustainable development and saline water desalination using membrane technology, as well as treatment of waste water using industrial and biologic membranes. Where they received the shield of the university and also certificates of appreciation for their active participation in the symposium by means of the President of Al Kitab University, Prof. Dr. Iyad Ghani Ismail.

The Summer Training Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a scientific visit for students of the third class of the Chemical Engineering and Oil Refining engineering Branch
Written by lumaBased on the directives of the Presidency of Chemical Engineering in activating the scientific visits of the students of the Department during the current academic year 2018/2019, the Summer Training Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a scientific visit to the students of the third class of the branch of chemical engineering and oil refining engineering on Tuesday 19/3/2019 to the headquarters of the General Company for Heavy Engineering Equipment located in the Duora area under the supervision of the faculty members, namely: Assist. Prof. Dr. Khaled Hamed, Lect. Dr. Wallaa Al-Najjar, Lect. Dr. Abbas Jawad, Lect. Dr. Haidar Abd Ali and Chief chemist Wasun Sami. At the end of the visit, all faculty members and students expressed their joy at the positive results of the scientific activity carried out by the Summer Training Unit. They also extended their thanks and appreciation to the Head of the Department for providing them with an opportunity to learn about the latest technological developments in the area of jurisdiction directly.

In accordance with the directives of the Presidency of the University of Technology in activating the scientific visits of the students of the Department in order to activate awareness and education in the field of rationalization and energy sustainability, the Summer Training Unit organized a practical scientific visit on Tuesday 26/3/2019 to the headquarters of the Baghdad Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainability in Baghdad International Fair in Al-Mansour area for students of the third class / evening study of both branches, Oil & Gas Refining engineering and Chemical Processing engineering, under the supervision of the faculty members and engineers, namely: Assist. Prof. Dr. Khaled Hamed, Assist. Prof. Dr. Bushra Abdullah, Lect. Lama Hussein and Senior chief Eng. Osama Hussein. On the sidelines of the visit, the Director of the Center at the Baghdad Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainability, Mr. Mohammed Shaker, welcomed the teachers and the students who were present in the center's hall where the director of the center toured the center's sections with the delegation. The delegation was briefed on the sections of the center and the purpose of its establishing. As well as the existing systems in the center, which rely entirely on renewable energy, the most prominent of which is a solar powered air conditioner and models and applications through the presentation of comprehensive video on the city of sustainable, the main objective of the scientific visit was to link the theoretical study with the practical application and to clarify some practical applications of chemical engineering in the field of environmental pollution treatments through solid waste recycling processes, applications of green chemistry, bio-fuel manufacturing, diesel fuel from organic waste, as well as an explanation of solar cells.
