In accordance with the directives of the Presidency of the University of Technology in activating the scientific visits of the students of the Department in order to activate awareness and education in the field of rationalization and energy sustainability, the Summer Training Unit organized a practical scientific visit on Tuesday 26/3/2019 to the headquarters of the Baghdad Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainability in Baghdad International Fair in Al-Mansour area for students of the third class / evening study of both branches, Oil & Gas Refining engineering and Chemical Processing engineering, under the supervision of the faculty members and engineers, namely: Assist. Prof. Dr. Khaled Hamed, Assist. Prof. Dr. Bushra Abdullah, Lect. Lama Hussein and Senior chief Eng. Osama Hussein. On the sidelines of the visit, the Director of the Center at the Baghdad Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainability, Mr. Mohammed Shaker, welcomed the teachers and the students who were present in the center's hall where the director of the center toured the center's sections with the delegation. The delegation was briefed on the sections of the center and the purpose of its establishing. As well as the existing systems in the center, which rely entirely on renewable energy, the most prominent of which is a solar powered air conditioner and models and applications through the presentation of comprehensive video on the city of sustainable, the main objective of the scientific visit was to link the theoretical study with the practical application and to clarify some practical applications of chemical engineering in the field of environmental pollution treatments through solid waste recycling processes, applications of green chemistry, bio-fuel manufacturing, diesel fuel from organic waste, as well as an explanation of solar cells.

In light of the directives of the university to develop the scientific capabilities of faculty members and to obtain an advanced equipment training, the faculty members from the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology: Lect. Dr. Alaa Mishgal Ali, Lect. Fadel Hashem Faraj and Assist. Lect. Khaled Mansour Sadek were participated in the workshop under the title (description, identification and basic analysis of nanomaterials) at the University of Kashan / Islamic Republic of Iran for the period 8-12 / 2/2019. Participants were trained on nanometer instruments (XRD, SEM & BET). The participants received certificates as well as a letter of thanks from the host University for their active participation.

Professors from College of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering at the Islamic Republic of Iran, Prof. Hatyi and Prof. Azmi, are visiting the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology. During the visit, the meeting was attended with the Head of the Department Assist Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, scientific and administrative deputies of the head of the department and the heads of scientific branches in the department. The meeting dealt with reviewing the study plans for the graduate and postgraduate studies, the research tracks in both departments and the prospects of cooperation between the two parties. Afterwards, a lecture was given by them about the applications of nano-technology on the teaching staff in the department. The meeting was also held with the head of cultural relations department.

Within the activities of the Division of Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation, the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology held a workshop entitled "The European Foundation for Total Quality Management (EFQM) model and (RADAR Scoring Matrix)" at the Dar Al-Salaam Hall on 19/3/2019 and in the presence of the head of the chemical engineering department Assist Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar and the deputies of the head of the department and the heads of branches with a group from faculty members, where the lecture was given by Dr. May Ali Muslim, and she was explained the most important criteria for evaluating the institution.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Khalid Hamid Rashid from the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology was honored with the International Scientific Award and the Golden Medal with the international certificate in the first international event in Iraq for the year 2019 by means of Everest Organization for Development Training and the French Association of thinkers, researchers and inventors in France at the headquarters of the European Union of scientists and inventors for his participation in a scientific study in chemical engineering in finding solutions to deal with corrosion problems and protection of iron alloys used in the field of oil industry. This scientific research specialized in the containers Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) under the title: Evaluation of new green inhibitors against corrosion for steel alloys in the acidic environments. He was honored by the President of the University of Technology in a ceremony held in the hall of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology on 12/3/2019.
