The head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar participated in the first meeting of the Committee of Deans of Engineering Colleges in Iraq, which was held at Al-Rafidain University College in Baghdad on Thursday, 11/10/2018. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Riyadh Hassan Al-Anbari and in the presence of all the deans of the engineering faculties. During the meeting, many important topics were discussed that serve the scientific side in engineering studies in Iraq.

Within the scientific and cultural activities of the first semester of the Department of Chemical Engineering for the academic year 2018-2019, Lect. Dr. Abbas Sultan was given a lecture entitled Reference Manager Mendeley. The presentation was provided inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall on Thursday 4-10-2018 in the presence of the head of chemical engineering department Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar and both the scientific and the administration deputies of the head of department, as well as the heads of the branches with a number of staff from the department in addition to the postgraduate students. The lecturer explained that this presentation focused on explaining the characteristics of (Mendeley software). It is a very useful program in the organization of scientific research as well as the inclusion of references and the discovery of modern research, and how to cooperate with other research groups. The purpose of this presentation was to encourage postgraduate students to use this program to save their time as well as their efforts in the writing of scientific literature and research. At the end of the seminar, the lecturer was received a certificate of appreciation from the department in appreciation of his scientific diligence.

In the light of the scope of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research represented by the Higher Ministerial Committee supervising the development of the program of safety and security of chemical and biological and the Office of Threat Reduction CTR in US State Department, The University of Technology represented by the Department of Chemical Engineering, participated in the workshop on the chemical inventory management system (CIMS). Senior Engineer Eveline Ayoub Dawood participated in the workshop held at Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies for three days for the period from 24-26 / 9/2018. Where the lectures were given by experts from the US Department of Energy at Sandia International Laboratories in the implementation of a training program during the workshop, at the end of the workshop, certificates were awarded to participants in this workshop.

The Department of Chemical Engineering in cooperation with the Department of Production Engineering and Metallurgy held a three-day training course on ISO 17025 for the quality of testing and measurement laboratories. The lectures were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdul Khaleq Fawzi Hammoud from the Department of Production Engineering and Metallurgy, on Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Sunday, 30/9/2018. This course was attended by faculty members and employees in our department. It is worth mentioning that ISO 17025 includes administrative requirements and technical requirements related to improving the quality of laboratories and the testing and measurement of these service laboratories.

The head of Chemical Engineering Department and the members of the Postgraduate Studies Committee met the postgraduate students (PhD and Masters) for the academic year 2018-2019 on Sunday, 16/9/2018. During the meeting, the postgraduate students were welcomed and wished them a successful year and the members of the Postgraduate Studies Committee spoke through their interventions to encourage students to progress in science and interest in lectures in addition to follow up the scientific sources in the postgraduate studies.
