the Chemical Engineering Department discusses a PhD thesis entitled (Hydro-Treating of Gasoil in a Dual Bed Reactor Consisting of Metal Loaded Catalysts Made of Iraqi Kaolin and Bentonite Clays), on Thursday 18/04/2024.

Within the scientific activities of the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Chemical Engineering Department discusses a PhD thesis entitled (Hydro-Treating of Gasoil in a Dual Bed Reactor Consisting of Metal Loaded Catalysts Made of Iraqi Kaolin and Bentonite Clays), on Thursday 18/04/2024. The PhD thesis for the student Ayman Fawzi Zwain included removing sulfur compounds from Iraqi gas oil. A laboratory system was used that simulates industrial conditions with catalysts prepared from Iraqi kaolin and bentonite clays. Different proportions of nickel, cobalt and molybdenum metals were added to the catalysts and the reaction was conducted over a wide and varied range of operating conditions to study their effect on removal efficiency. The best sulfur removal rate of 93.38% was achieved. Mathematical models have also been developed to simulate these reactions and remove coke from spent catalysts. The results showed a clear improvement in the process of removing sulfur compounds as a result of the use of two layers of catalysts inside the reactor, in addition to providing a complete view of the optimal conditions for the process of reactivating the catalysts and removing the coke accumulated on their surfaces.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Amer Aziz Abdul Rahman, chairman, Prof. Dr. Ramzi Sayhoud Hameed, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Rana Thabet Abboud, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Farah Talib Jasim, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Haiyam Mohammed Abdalraheem, member,  and under the supervision of both Prof. Dr. Zaidoon Mohsin Shakor  and Prof. Dr. Bashir Yousif Sherhan. As well as the scientific evaluation of the thesis was done by Prof. Dr. Saad Hanash Ammar from Al-Nahrain University /Department of Chemical Engineering and Prof. Dr. Acer Talib Jarallah Shaaban from Tikrit University /Department of Chemical Engineering, and linguistically by Prof. Dr. Najm Abdul Kadhim Al-Rubaie from the University of Technology.
