Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir; the president of the University of Technology, the Department of Chemical Engineering held a scientific symposium entitled(The water crisis in the province of Basra: reality and solutions) in collaboration with the Department of Civil Engineering / University of Technology, on Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Monday, 15/10/2018. The symposium was attended the president of the University of Technology; Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir and the University president deputy for scientific affairs and postgraduate Studies; Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul-Hussein and University president deputy for administrative affairs; Prof. Dr. Sami Abu Al-Nun Ajeel and the head of Chemical Engineering Department; Assist Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar with a group of faculty members and employees from the department and the university and guests from all ministries. The university president said in his speech that the University of Technology with all its scientific and engineering cadres is working to solve the water problem in the province of Basra. And that this problem needs to be a serious pause from everyone to reduce the pollution and violations of water quotas of this honorable province. On the other hand, the head of the department said in a speech and lecture on the occasion under the title of design and construction of mobile plants for water treatment in Basra: The use of nanotechnology is an advanced technology in the field of water treatment, consequently the project aims to build ten mobile units working with nanotechnology and used in remote areas and villages for the purpose of providing drinking water of high quality and in accordance with international standards. The symposium included three scientific lectures, which are delivered by Prof. Dr. Hassan Mahdi Al-Saffar, Deputy General Director, Ministry of Water Resources, National Center, and Prof. Dr. Saadi Kazim Abdul-Hussein, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Environment and Water, and Assist Prof. Dr. Ibtisam Rahim Kareem Director of Water Desalination Unit / Civil Engineering Department. At the end of the symposium, certificates of appreciation were awarded by the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department to the lecturers, the supervising committee, the preparatory committee and the media and protocols committee.


Within the scientific activities of the Department of Chemical Engineering and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir; the president of the University of Technology and in the presence of Assist Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar; the head of Chemical Engineering Department, the Department of Chemical Engineering in collaboration with Al-Mustansiriya University and the Irid Scientific Platform held a seminar entitled "Global Science Platforms and its Role in Disseminating Knowledge and Academic Communication" at Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Thursday 27/9/2018. In a speech, the university president said that the university has gone a long way in either the scientific communication with the outside or the academic communication with international university professors, which reflects the leading role of the University of Technology. The seminar included two lectures: the first was delivered by Assist Prof. Dr. Sundus Hamid Ahmed and the second lecture given by Assist Prof. Dr. Taghreed hur Hamid from Al-Mustansiriya University. At the end of the seminar, the President of the University of Technology honored the lecturers and the participants with certificates of appreciation and a shield was awarded to the university president in recognition of his scientific efforts in the development of scientific research at the university.



In the light of the scope of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research represented by the Higher Ministerial Committee supervising the development of the program of safety and security of chemical and biological and the Office of Threat Reduction CTR in US State Department, The University of Technology represented by the Department of Chemical Engineering, participated in the workshop on the chemical inventory management system (CIMS). Senior Engineer Eveline Ayoub Dawood participated in the workshop held at Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies for three days for the period from 24-26 / 9/2018. Where the lectures were given by experts from the US Department of Energy at Sandia International Laboratories in the implementation of a training program during the workshop, at the end of the workshop, certificates were awarded to participants in this workshop.


The Department of Chemical Engineering in cooperation with the Department of Production Engineering and Metallurgy held a three-day training course on ISO 17025 for the quality of testing and measurement laboratories. The lectures were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdul Khaleq Fawzi Hammoud from the Department of Production Engineering and Metallurgy, on Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Sunday, 30/9/2018. This course was attended by faculty members and employees in our department. It is worth mentioning that ISO 17025 includes administrative requirements and technical requirements related to improving the quality of laboratories and the testing and measurement of these service laboratories.
