MSc. Student Muslim Jasem was awarded a MSc. Degree in Chem. Eng. from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
The Student was obtained a MSc. Degree after discussion of his dissertation under the title: "Modification of membrane by carbon nanotubes for desalination applications", which was supervised by Prof. Dr. Qusay Fadel Abdul Hamid, on Tuesday 12/6/2018 inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology. The discussion Committee was comprised of; Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abd Mohamed, Asst. Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdul Jabbar and Lect. Dr. Nisreen Sabah. The student explained that Flat sheet membranes were manufactured by embedded alumina (Al2O3) and functionalized MWCNTs (MWCNTs-COOH) with PVDF-Co-HFP membrane in N,N-Dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) via the phase-inversion method. The optimum content of Al2O3 to prevent the wettability of the membrane was 0.2 g. Various amounts of MWCNTs (i.e., 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 g) with (0.2 g) of (Al2O3) embedded with 22 wt.% of PVDF-Co-HFP were investigated.SEM, AFM, as well as contact angle (CA) and porosity tests were conducted to characterize the properties of the fabricated membranes. The impact of operative condition parameters liketemperature of solution of hot feed, feed flow rate, and concentration of the feed were tested to investigate the performance of DCMD
MSc. Student Nour Iyad Mohamed was awarded a MSc. Degree in Chem. Eng. from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
The Student was obtained a MSc. Degree after discussion of her dissertation under the title: "Saline Water Desalination using Direct Contact Membrane Distillation", which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Salah Salman, on Monday 11/6/2018 inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology. The discussion Committee was comprised of; Prof. Dr. Ahmed Faeq, Asst. Prof. Dr. Talib Mohammed Nayef and Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaled Turki Rashed. The student explained that The performance of direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) for saline water desalination was detected via carrying out fifty-five laboratory experiments. The impact of various operating conditions such as feed flow rate (0.3-1.7 L/min), temperature (45-65˚C) and concentration (0-200 g/L) of NaCl solution on the permeation flux were investigated in the present study. A flat sheet module was implemented with a commercial poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene (PTFE). The performance of the system was significantly influenced by the feed temperature where the permeation flux was increased with increasing feed temperature In addition, the feed flow rate had a positive effect on the system performance so the permeate flux was increased by increasing feed flow rate. Whereas, it was decreased slightly with increasing feed concentration. Furthermore, a simultaneous heat and mass transfer model for DCMD system using MATLAB program was developed
MSc. Student Lina Wahib Mahmoud was awarded a MSc. Degree in Chem. Eng. from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
The Student was obtained a MSc. Degree after discussion of her dissertation under the title: "Study the Thermodynamic Conditions of Clathrate Hydrates Dissociation for Ternary Systems Comprising (Refrigerant, Salt and Water)", which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Riad Sadiq and Lect. Dr. Shurooq Talib, on (7/6/2018 ) inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology. The discussion Committee was comprised of; Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zaidoun Mohsen Shakour and Asst. Prof. Dr. Venus Majid Hamid. The student explained that Hydrate is defined as crystal forms containing water as integral part of the crystal lattice and acts as host for wide range of gases. The present work consists of an experimental and theoretical investigation dealing with hydrate formation for binary system (water+ refrigerant gas) and ternary systems (water+ refrigerant gas+ salt) at different initial pressures. The gas consumed (∆n) of binary system increased with increase initial pressure of hydrate formation. The hydrate dissociation enthalpies of binary and ternary systems were determined by Clapeyron equation .The obtained results of dissociation enthalpy for binary system was (136.21) kJ.mol-1
