Within the scientific activities of the Department of Chemical Engineering, a doctoral thesis for the student Omar Sabah Mahdi entitled (Experimental and Computational Investigation of Hydrodynamics and Heat Transfer for Particles mixture in Three-Phase Fluidized Bed) was discussed on Sunday 26/6/2022. The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Raheeq Ismail Ibrahim, chairman, Prof. Dr. Asawer Abdel Rasoul Kouiri, member, Prof. Dr. Malik Mustafa Mohamed, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zainab Yousif Shanine, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Amer Hamid Majeed, member, and under the supervision of both Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Al-Rubaye and Asst. Prof. Dr. Amer Aziz Abdul Rahman. As well as the scientific evaluation of the thesis by Prof. Dr. Venus Majid Hamid from Al-Nahrain University and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nassif Abbas from Al Mustansiriya University, and linguistically by Asst. Prof. Dr. Samir Ali Amin from the University of Technology.

 

Within the scientific activities of the Department of Chemical Engineering, a doctoral thesis for the student Areej Dalaf Abbas entitled (Evaluation of Nano-Additives Effect on the Performance of Multiphase flow Systems in Petroleum and Gas Sector) was discussed on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdul-Jabbar Abdul-Razzaq, chairman, Asst. Prof. Dr. Saleh Abdul-Jabbar Saleh, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Riyad Sadiq Muhammad, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yasser Emad Abdel Razzaq, member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zainab Talib Abed Zaid, member, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar. As well as the scientific evaluation of the thesis by Prof. Dr. Bassem Obaid Hassan from Al-Nahrain University and Prof. Dr. Raheeq Ismail Ibrahim from the University of Technology, and linguistically by Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi from the University of Technology.

In the field of joint academic cooperation, the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology signed a joint work memorandum with Al-Farabi University College on Tuesday, 28/6/2022. The memorandum included joint work and cooperation between the two parties in the areas of developing plans and mechanisms, unifying curricula for corresponding disciplines, exchanging scientific resources, and cooperating in the areas of summer training for students, and using laboratories and workshops at the two universities. As well as cooperation in the fields of scientific research, establishing joint student activities and exchanging experiences in the field of management and career development.

In the presence of the assistant president of the university for scientific affairs, Prof Dr. Haider Abd Dahad, and under the supervision of the head of the Chemical Engineering Department, , Prof Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubaye. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology held the first annual festival for posters of postgraduate students' projects on Wednesday, 8/6/2022. The festival included the presentation of the research projects of postgraduate students for the master and doctoral stages, with 28 posters. The Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Al-Rubaye, confirmed that organizing this festival acquires a necessary scientific importance as it contributes to enhancing aspects of scientific research and developing the scientific capabilities of postgraduate students by presenting their research projects in a simplified manner in the presence of a jury based on international standards. The festival activities were completed by awarding certificates of appreciation to the participants in the festival activities.

The President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghabban, inaugurated the scientific poster exhibition for processes and operational units in the oil refineries, which was held by the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology in cooperation with Al-Mustaqbal University College (MUC) and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubaye, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department and representative of Al-Mustaqbal College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Issam Kamel, on Thursday 19/5 / 2022. The students of the Department of Chemical Engineering presented the most important recent scientific developments in industrial and production units in the oil refining sector. In his speech at the exhibition, Dr. Al-Ghabban stated that the University of Technology, in its academic programs, seeks seriously to develop the scientific capabilities of students in order to make the graduate engineer loaded with real knowledge to be able to work in the public and private sectors with his skills and applied experience. Dr. Al-Ghabban pointed out the importance of the joint scientific efforts between the Department of Chemical Engineering and Al-Mustaqbal College in order to enhance the fruitful scientific cooperation between the two parties. It is worth noting that the scientific poster exhibition included more than 28 posters prepared by faculty members and students of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology, and others prepared by students and faculty members in the Department of Refining and Petroleum Industries at Al-Mustaqbal College. The industrial projects of the operational units were presented from the stage of entering the crude oil to the refinery to the final stages of obtaining oil derivatives with approved international specifications.
