The Department of Chemical Engineering held a course entitled (Safe handling of chemicals used in educational laboratories and methods of preservation) for the department’s laboratories for the period from 20 to 22 September. The lecturer was Dr. Manal Afham Touma, Chair of the CBRN Committee in the department. The first day of the course included how to distinguish between chemical safety and chemical security and how to distinguish the danger and effectiveness of each substance to know how to store and transport it. Then she talked about the general conditions for storing chemical substances. The next lectures will be on how to store and deal with each type of chemical substance, especially the most used in laboratories of Chemical Engineering Department.

The head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, met in the department’s council with the website’s staff, the Information Division, the Statistics Unit, the Quality Division, the Postgraduate Studies Division, and the Registration Director in order to update and develop our department’s website. The meeting was attended by the scientific aide, , Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdul-Jabbar, and the rapporteur of the department, Lect. Dr. Manal Afham, Director of Quality and University Performance, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mai Ali Muslim and a group of the website, media and statistics staff, the Director of Postgraduate Studies and the Director of Registration, on Monday, 20/9/202. The meeting included a discussion of many important axes that contribute to solving many problems on the website, including updating the graduate follow-up unit as well as members of the faculty. It was agreed that a joint committee would emerge working to overcome these obstacles and set some simplified procedures for making data according to an electronic platform. Dr. Al-Rubeai stressed that all the facilities that the site needs are provided by activating all the services that help the cadres to advance their work and provide the best services.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Turki Rashid participated in a committee to discuss a doctoral thesis in the Department of Civil Engineering / University of Technology, entitled (Study of the cherestestics and separation performance for composite nano-membranes to remove dye pollutants from simulated wastewater) by student Rana Jawad Kazem, on Thursday, 9/9/2021. The thesis included the preparation of filter membranes using a polymeric polyether sulfone PES with the addition of a porous MCM-41 zeolite, which has the potential to reduce membrane contamination by organic dyes particles, which is considered the main problem in leather tanning and textile industries and successfully manufactured using the phase inversion method at several ratios (0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.8 and 1%). The properties of osmotic films were investigated through a series of investigations (scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), contact angle measurement, porosity, thickness, roughness, pore size, properties Mechanical and membrane-removal efficiency of dyes) for the evaluation of composite membranes. All the modified films showed significant improvement in their hydrophobicity, roughness, porosity, and mechanical strength.

The head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, blessed the start of the academic year 2022/2021 for postgraduate students, on Sunday 19/9/1921, when teaching began in postgraduate studies and focused on more excellence in follow-up. He also emphasized the duties of the faculty member in supervision, monitoring and commitment to them in addition to follow-up lectures and working hours, as well as managing the educational process after the country faced challenges and circumstances that are not easy. He thanked the sincere efforts that established an honorable position for the future of Iraq and the service of its honorable people.

On Sunday, 19/9/2021, the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, inspected the conduct of the attendance and electronic exams for undergraduate students of studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering. During the tour, the mechanism of the system used, the type of exam questions and their difficulty were reviewed. In addition to the plans in place during the exam period and preventive procedures in terms of social distancing and wearing a mask to limit the spread of the Corona epidemic. The head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, praised the efforts made by the examination committee and all cadres in serving the students and providing all their needs, wishing everyone continued excellence and success in the service of our university.
