The Department of Chemical Engineering organized a training course on the safe handling of chemicals used in educational laboratories and their preservation methods for the period from 21-25/11/2021. The course was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Riyad Sadiq and Lect. Dr. Manal Afham from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wafaa Abdul-Kazim from the Chemical, Biological and Radiological Materials Division at the university . The course included scientific lectures on the necessity of following the instructions and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Research and Development Department, and the instructions of the University Committee for Security and Safety of CBRN. Chemicals are categorized according to the hazards and handling of chemical spills. The course aims to raise the scientific level of the chemical store officials, awareness the affiliates and the employees, and prepare them for safe and proper handling of chemicals by adhering to the application of safety and security rules. Within the cultural events organized by the University of Technology, the Chemical Engineering Department team participated on Sunday 5/12/2021 in the final competitions for the fourth group of the festival, which was held at the Professor Jassim Al-Hayani Hall in the Department of Production Engineering and Metallurgy. The team managed to get first place in the final competitions of the festival. During the event, the trophy for winning first place was handed over to the head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, who praised the team’s efforts and excellence during the competitions, wishing them continued success and excellence.

On Monday, the 29^th of November, the Department of Chemical Engineering celebrated a group of graduates of the academic year 2020/2021. The graduates were honored with the graduation shield in a ceremony held in Al-Salam Hall, by awarding the graduates with the shields by the head of the department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai. The ceremony was attended by the graduates and their families, and a graduation photo was taken in the presence of the President of the University of Technology Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghabban, the head of the department Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, and members of the faculty in the department. The oath of graduation was chanted by the graduates, and photographs were taken for the graduates of the morning and evening studies, and then the graduates of the two studies according to the scientific disciplines. The graduates rejoiced greatly on this day in the presence of their families and colleagues.

Within the scientific activities for the academic year 2021/2022, the Department of Chemical Engineering, in cooperation with the Journal of Engineering and Technology, organized a scientific lecture on publication in the journal on Wednesday, 17/11/2021. The lecture was delivered by the editor-in-chief of the Journal, Prof. Dr. Qusay Fadel Al-Salihi, with the participation of the Lect. Muhammad Jassam Lafta. The lecture focused on explaining the aspects related to scientific publishing, how to write scientific research, the journal's correspondence mechanisms, and following the publication controls and instructions in Clarivate and Scopus containers.

On Wednesday 10/11/2021, the head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, received the team of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which included in its membership representatives of the Iraqi National Monitoring Authority and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) team, as well as some relevant authorities. The visit included an inspection tour of the chemical warehouse, reviewing the reality of the chemical laboratories in the department, and discussing security and safety procedures for chemical materials and prospects for cooperation between the two sides.
