Absorption of carbon dioxide by a deep eutectic solvent
The student Muhammad Nouri Jassim's thesis aimed at studying the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, as this leads to higher temperatures, increased pollution and health problems.
In this work, three types of eutectic solvents were used, such as 1-choline chloride-2-urea, 1-choline chloride-3-phenol and 1-choline chloride-6-monoethanolamine at a concentration of (0-3) mol/L. The ionic liquid is mixed with canolamin such as MEA at a concentration of (4mol/L) and water to increase the adsorption efficiency.
The compound central design (CCD) method was applied to reduce the number of trials needed to optimize the operating conditions. In the adsorption experiments, the effect of the solution temperature (25-45) C, the solvent concentration (0-3) mol/L and the adsorption time (60-150 minutes) were studied to determine the optimal operating conditions on the performance of the adsorption process.
Experimental data showed that the best solvent for capturing carbon dioxide is 1-choline chloride 2-urea under operating conditions with a temperature of 35 °C, a concentration of 1.5 mol/L of solvent, and 105 minutes of adsorption time. Optimal operating conditions for CO capture were achieved according to the following specifications: CO2 concentration output 1.258%, adsorption rate 0.078 mol/kg min, CO2 loading 7.977 mol CO2/kg, adsorption capacity 0.350 kg CO2/kg solvent, The solubility was 0.068 mol / mol and the adsorption efficiency was 92% for the solution. In this research, the reaction kinetics of carbon dioxide for the best solvent was the reaction rate constant (0.38) min -1, and the forward reaction was
(k1 = 0.0447) L/mol/min and the back reaction was (k2) = 6.2×10-4 L 3/mol 2. The order of the reaction was first order and the mass transfer coefficient was (0.1443) mol/bar/l min.

On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manea Al-Rubaie. The Department of Chemical Engineering took the initiative to distribute the Ramadan basket to the students of the department in the internal departments on Tuesday, 4/11/2023.
The initiative included the distribution of (60) food baskets, 25 baskets for female students and 35 baskets for male students residing in the dormitory departments. In this regard, Prof. Dr. Jamal Al-Rubaie confirmed that the distribution of Ramadan baskets on this day represents an extension of the department’s directions to contribute to creating psychological conditions and helping students to continue performing the obligation of fasting. By covering some of their food needs. As well as deepening the bonds of social relations and spreading a culture of cooperation and a sense of responsibility towards the students of the department.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized a workshop entitled Summer Training and Developing Scientific Skills for Students. On Thursday, 3/15/2023. With the participation of students of the second and third stages of the morning and evening studies.
The workshop aimed to introduce the importance of summer training to the students included in the academic year 2022/2023. Clarification of summer training instructions and timetables according to the university calendar, and the necessity of adhering to the specified timings and not exceeding them, and urging students covered by summer training to make maximum use of summer training to develop their scientific capabilities.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, in cooperation with the Women Empowerment Unit at the University of Technology, organized an expanded celebration to celebrate women on Tuesday, 14/3/2023. The celebration included a speech delivered by the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Ali Alrubaye, during which he emphasized the importance and status of women in society. In addition to giving a lecture entitled (The concept of emancipation from a woman's point of view) by Prof. Dr. Bushra Abdel-Hussein from the University of Baghdad. During the ceremony, many poems were recited that embodied the role and position of women in building society. The ceremony ended with the distribution of gifts and awarding certificates of appreciation to a number of female employees of the department, in appreciation of their outstanding efforts. The ceremony was attended by the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hussein Hamid Karim, and Asst. The workshop included a lecture by Prof. Dr. Fadel Kamel Mathkour, Professor of Physiology at the College of Education, Al-Mustansiriya University. It included a detailed presentation on obesity and overweight and its direct impact on human health and some chronic diseases, in addition to addressing the correct scientific means and methods for treating obesity cases by identifying the criteria for measuring obesity and muscle mass.

Prof. Dr. Bashir Yousif Sherhan receive the annual award of the Ministry of Oil for scientific research under the slogan (Encouraging Excellence and Advancing the Scientific Research Process) within the axis of (Crude Oil Refining Operations and Product Improvement) on a MSc. dissertation research titled (Preparation and Characterization of Metakaolim-based catalysts for Gasoil Hydro-desulfurization Purposes) By researcher Kholoud Salem Dawood Hussein On Monday, 30/1/2022. The event included the participation of (238) research papers from various ministries, universities and research centers in the country to compete, and (8) distinguished research papers were selected to win the award within eight research axes identified by the committee supervising the competition. Natural Mineral Adsorbent for Elimination of Hazardous Pollutants from wastewater
The student's thesis, Asawer Mahdi Sobhi, aimed to investigate the feasibility of obtaining a high removal of dyes using the batch adsorption method for the purpose of removing cationic and anionic dyes represented by methylene blue and yellow dye.
The effect of pH (3-11), dose of adsorbents (0.03-1.5) g, contact time (0-150) minutes, dye concentration (25-200) mg/l was studied, and the adsorption process was studied at different temperatures (298). -328) Kelvin, and the results showed that the amount of dye adsorption increases when the temperature increases, that is, the process is endothermic for (MB) dye, while the adsorption process is exothermic with respect to (EY). The basic thermodynamic functions were calculated from the compressive free energy, entropy and enthalpy, It was concluded that the adsorption process is physical and that there is an increase in the entropy and the process was automatic for the basic dye. The adsorption kinetics was studied and was more suitable with the second-order kinetic adsorption. It was found that the behavior of ZMS was close to NIL and the removal rate for basic dyes was higher than for acidic dyes.

The participation included scientific lectures by Dr. Manal Afham, Chairman of the CBRN Committee in the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Prof. Wafaa Abdel Kadhim, Head of the CBRN Division, and Prof. Dr. Riyad Sadeq, CBRN University Committee Administrator. In the presence of all faculty members of the department. The meeting included a detailed presentation of the reality of the department's work and a discussion of many important topics related to the reality of the department and faculty members. In addition to addressing the nature of the future directions of the university presidency to improve the scientific reality of the university.
