The Department of Chemical Engineering holds its general assembly in preparation for the first semester exams
Written by zaid kareemIn preparation for the end of the first semester exams, the Department of Chemical Engineering held a meeting of the General Faculty of Teachers in the presence of the representative of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Farhad Muhammad Othman, Assistant to the President of the University for Administrative Affairs, on Wednesday, 12/20/2023.
The Commission discussed the most important topics that would advance academic work and develop the educational process. The assistant president of the university listened to the proposals of the professors, which aim to improve the pioneering role of the university professor in order to serve the community and improve the quality of performance. For his part, Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukkar expressed his thanks to the university presidency and the teaching staff for their efforts made during the first semester and the scientific excellence the department has achieved in the field of purposeful scientific publishing. At the end of the meeting, the efforts of Professor Dr. Jamal Manea Ali were appreciated by the representative of the university president with a certificate of appreciation for his previous efforts in managing the department.
The Department of Chemical Engineering organizes an awareness lecture on university life.
Written by zaid kareemAs part of the scientific and cultural activity for the first semester, the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized an awareness lecture entitled University Life on Wednesday, 12/20/2023.
The lecture was given by Sheikh Dr. Ali Munie. During which he gave a detailed presentation on the nature of university life as it is related to the youth stage, and touched on the importance of good behavior in order to build a solid society based on science and knowledge. In conclusion, the Presidency of the Chemical Engineering Department granted a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in appreciation of his efforts in delivering the lecture.
The Department of Chemical Engineering conducts a field training exercise to implement the civil defense emergency plan
Written by zaid kareemSponsored by Professor Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghabban, President of the University of Technology, and in implementation of the university’s directives to enhance safety and security in the scientific departments and university departments, the Chemical Engineering Department conducted a field training exercise to implement the civil defense emergency plan on Wednesday, 12/20/2023. The event began with sounding the alarm bell in the department building, evacuating classrooms and administrative offices, adopting directional signs for emergency exits, and gathering outside the department building with a good safety distance. Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, announced the success of the training experience in which more than 200 students, associates, and teachers participated, and included the work of more than ten specialized teams in guidance, guidance, response, first aid, fire brigades, and firefighting, as well as casualty evacuation teams. This field practice comes in order to enhance safety and civil defense requirements in the event of disasters and emergencies, may God forgive us, to preserve lives and enhance the culture of public safety.
The Department of Chemical Engineering welcomes a scientific delegation from the Midland Refineries Company
Written by zaid kareemIn light of the joint scientific cooperation between the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology and the Midland Refineries Company, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajmi Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, welcomed the scientific delegation from the Midland Refineries Company at the Ministry of Oil, which included Dr. Ramez Mahdi Jawad and Dr. Hossam Ahmed Abdel Hussein and Dr. Rand Qusay Kazem. This meeting came on the sidelines of attending the second meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Third International Conference on Modern Technologies for the Oil and Gas Industry. It is worth noting that the Department of Chemical Engineering has extensive scientific cooperation with the Midland Refineries Company in all scientific fields that lead to the development of the oil refinery sector to serve our national economy. The meeting was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Malek Mustafa, a representative of Al-Mustaqbal University. This serious and fruitful interaction comes in line with the directives of the University of Technology, which emphasize serving society and the productive and industrial sector. It is noteworthy that this cooperation was organized in accordance with the memorandum of joint scientific cooperation that had previously been signed between the two parties, and work continues according to it to develop scientific cooperation.

Written by zaid kareemThe scientific and preparatory committees for the Third International Conference on Modern Technologies for the Oil and Gas Industry held their second periodic meeting in the Department of Chemical Engineering, headed by Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajmi Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department. The meeting was attended by members of the various conference committees, including faculty members in the department, and other members of the parties participating in the conference, from the Midland Refineries Company in the Ministry of Oil, as well as the Al-Mustaqbal University. The number of scientific manuscripts received at the conference was discussed, as well as the scientific, administrative and technical aspects of holding the conference. It is worth noting that this conference, in its third edition, is a distinguished scientific event to present the latest developments in the field of the petroleum industry and oil refineries, which is scheduled to be held for the period from 4-5/3/2024 under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and under the direct supervision of the Presidency of the University of Technology.
The Department of Chemical Engineering holds a photo exhibition to support the Palestinian cause
Written by zaid kareemUnder the generous patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, and within the cultural and artistic season of the Department of Chemical Engineering, an exhibition of photographs was opened in support of the Palestinian cause, in which an elite group of professors and students of the Department of Chemical Engineering participated with artistic paintings and pictures that expressed true solidarity with our oppressed Arab people and the brutal cruelty to which Azza’s children were subjected. The opening was attended by Prof. Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, on Wednesday, 12/13/2023. The head of the department expressed his deep thanks to all the professors and students for their efforts in making the art exhibition a success and their true solidarity with our proud Palestinian people.

Written by zaid kareemAs part of the University of Technology’s efforts to encourage sports programs for male and female students, Faten Raad, a second-year student in the Chemical Engineering Department, participated in the Youth Sports Festival, which was held at the University of Baghdad/College of Physical Education and Sports, in the presence of a number of prominent sports figures and families of the players, with the participation of 20 teams within the ages of 10. -11 years from various private schools for the period 14-15/12/2023. The student reviewed modern martial arts and self-defense movements. It is worth noting that the festival was held under the sponsorship of the Asif Family Academy for Martial Arts and Self-Defense. The sports festival was attended by Dr. Qusay Jaafar Rashid, representative of the Chemical Engineering Department.
Students Rania Amjad and Zahraa Ghanem from the Chemical Engineering Department participate in the National Memory Competition for the Gifted at the Ministry of Youth and Sports
Written by zaid kareemWithin the program of the University of Technology and the Department of Chemical Engineering aimed at developing students skills, student Rania Amjad Muhammad/fourth stage, Chemical Engineering and Oil Pollution Branch, and student Zahraa Ghanem Abdullah/fourth stage, Chemical Process Engineering Branch, participated in the National Memory Competition for the talented people, which was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The two students achieved distinguished scientific ranks through their active participation in the competition during the multiple stages of the competition and the scientific tests conducted for the students by specialized scientific arbitration committees. It is worth noting that in the first stage, out of a total of 100 students, three students qualified from the University of Technology: student Rania and student Zahraa from the Department of Chemical Engineering and student Musa Ibrahim from the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering.

The students participating in the exhibition presented their scientific ideas and innovations that contribute to developing production and industrial processes in the fields of chemical engineering. It is worth noting that the projects presented by the department talented students won the admiration of official delegations and evaluation committees for their importance in the field of water treatment, energy production and alternative fuels, as well as chemical and petroleum processes.

A scientific team of professors from the Department of Chemical Engineering participated in the Fifth International Conference on Building, Construction and Environmental Engineering, which was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology in cooperation with Komar University in Sulaymaniyah Governorate and the University of Jordan, in the presence of the representative of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, Assistant to the President for Affairs Administrative Prof. Dr. Farhad Muhammad Othman and the presence of an elite group of professors from the University of Technology and other universities.
Where Prof. Dr. Thamer Jassim Mohammed, Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdel-Jabbar Abdel-Razzaq (scientific assistant), Prof. Mai Ali Muslim (branch head of the Chemical Engineering and Oil Pollution Branch), and Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Rahman Abdel-Ghani participated. Where Prof. Dr. Thamer Jassim Muhammad chaired one of the research sessions in the environmental engineering axis, as well as the representative of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdel-Jabbar Abdel-Razzaq, as well as two sessions by Assist. The Department of Chemical Engineering organizes a symposium on investing waste in energy production.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized a scientific symposium entitled Investing municipal waste in energy production and environmental preservation on Tuesday, 12/12/2023.
The symposium included scientific lectures by Engineer Montaser Hiran Muhammad from the Baghdad Municipality and Professor Louay Sadiq Al-Mukhtar from the Ministry of Environment, during which a detailed presentation was given on the management and control of waste and ways to convert it into useful energy to preserve the environment. It also touched on the classification of waste in terms of origin, physical state, and chemical nature of the waste, and the projects of the Baghdad Municipality in investing waste in the Rusafa and Al-Karkh area and converting it into energy to preserve the environment. In addition to addressing the dangers of waste and its impact on human health and society. At the conclusion of the symposium, the lecturers were awarded certificates of appreciation by the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukkar, in appreciation of their distinguished efforts in delivering lectures.

As part of the cultural and scientific activity for the first semester, the Graduate Follow-up Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering held a workshop entitled Career Qualification for final year students and graduates on Sunday, 12/3/2023.
The workshop included a lecture by Mrs. Nour Sabah Sadiq Al-Marayati, Director of the Customer Service Department at Changan Company, during which she presented a set of technical and administrative skills that an engineer must possess in order to achieve success and distinction in the labor market. On the other hand, the lecture explained the importance of graduates obtaining the scientific skills that develop their academic capabilities and enable them to obtain the appropriate job and acquire the elements of success and career stability. At the conclusion of the workshop, the department appreciated the lecturer’s efforts with a certificate of thanks and appreciation in appreciation of her valuable efforts in the scientific workshop.

As part of the cultural and scientific activity for the first semester, the Graduate Follow-up Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering held a workshop on chemical additives in the concrete industry for final year students and graduates of the department on Wednesday, 11/29/2023. The workshop included a detailed presentation by the engineer Hammam Yaqzan Abdel Moneim about the types of concrete and chemical additives that are used to increase the quality of concrete to suit different uses. The lecturer explained that the mechanical properties of tensile and compressive strength depend greatly on the type of chemical additives used in the composition of concrete, and as a result affect its operational life and its capabilities to different conditions of humidity, salts, and harsh climatic factors.
