MSc. Student Nour Iyad Mohamed was awarded a MSc. Degree in Chem. Eng. from the Department of Chemical Engineering.

The Student was obtained a MSc. Degree after discussion of her dissertation under the title: "Saline Water Desalination using Direct Contact Membrane Distillation", which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Salah Salman, on Monday 11/6/2018 inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology. The discussion Committee was comprised of; Prof. Dr. Ahmed Faeq, Asst. Prof. Dr. Talib Mohammed Nayef and Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaled Turki Rashed. The student explained that The performance of direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) for saline water desalination was detected via carrying out fifty-five laboratory experiments. The impact of various operating conditions such as feed flow rate (0.3-1.7 L/min), temperature (45-65˚C) and concentration (0-200 g/L) of NaCl solution on the permeation flux were investigated in the present study. A flat sheet module was implemented with a commercial poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene (PTFE). The performance of the system was significantly influenced by the feed temperature where the permeation flux was increased with increasing feed temperature In addition, the feed flow rate had a positive effect on the system performance so the permeate flux was increased by increasing feed flow rate. Whereas, it was decreased slightly with increasing feed concentration. Furthermore, a simultaneous heat and mass transfer model for DCMD system using MATLAB program was developed
